RRB Group D (Level - 1) Recruitment 2026

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has officially released the short notification for CEN 09/2025, announcing approximately 22,000 vacancies for Level 1 (Group D) posts. This recruitment is a major opportunity for 10th-pass and ITI candidates seeking a career in Indian Railways.

Important Recruitment Dates

  • Short Notice Released: 23rd December 2025

  • Detailed Notification Release: 20th January 2026

  • Online Application Starts: 21st January 2026

  • Last Date to Apply: 20th February 2026 (11:59 PM)

  • Exam Date (CBT): To be announced (Expected mid-2026)

Vacancy Distribution (Approx. 22,000)

The vacancies cover various technical and operational roles across multiple departments:

  • Track Maintainer Grade IV: ~11,000 Posts

  • Pointsman-B: ~5,000 Posts

  • Assistant (S&T): ~1,500 Posts

  • Assistant (C&W): ~1,000 Posts

  • Assistant (Track Machine): ~600 Posts

  • Other Roles: Assistant (Bridge, P-Way, TRD, Loco Shed, etc.)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Education: * 10th Class (Matriculation) pass from a recognized board OR

    • ITI from institutions recognized by NCVT/SCVT OR * National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) issued by NCVT.

  • Age Limit (as of 01.01.2026): 18 – 33 years.

    • (Note: Some sources mention up to 36 years due to recent one-time relaxations, check the detailed notice on Jan 20).

  • Age Relaxations: SC/ST (5 years), OBC (3 years), PwBD (10-15 years).

Selection Process

  1. Computer-Based Test (CBT): The primary screening stage consisting of 100 questions (90 minutes).

  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Qualifying in nature for those who clear CBT.

  3. Document Verification (DV): Verification of original educational and category certificates.

  4. Medical Examination: Ensuring candidates meet the required medical standards (A-2, B-1, etc.) for their specific posts.

Salary & Benefits

  • Basic Pay: ₹18,000/- (Level-1 of 7th CPC).

  • Allowances: Includes DA, HRA, Transport Allowance, Night Duty Allowance, and Medical facilities.

  • In-hand Salary: Approximately ₹28,000 – ₹32,000 per month depending on the city of posting.

  • General / OBC / EWS: ₹500/- (₹400 refundable after appearing in CBT).

  • SC / ST / Female / PwBD / Ex-SM: ₹250/- (Fully refundable after appearing in CBT).
